Big Think: Happy? Take “psychological ownership” of your job
Does your job truly feel like it’s YOURS? I have definitely felt the difference between jobs that felt like mine and others that just didn't ... have you? 🤔
So, what is going on here?
That feeling is called hashtag#PsychologicalOwnership (PO) ...
When it comes to work, this is our ability to feel our job belongs to us and that we are psychologically tied to it.
Here are four key factors that influence your sense of hashtag#PsychologicalOwnership based on my research in hashtag#StrategyAndLeadershipAsService:
1️⃣ Control & Autonomy - the level of independence you have in your role, including the ability to make decisions and influence outcomes
2️⃣ Feeling Safe & Included: Psychological safety and inclusivity within the workplace, where you feel safe to experiment, make mistakes and feel valued and accepted
3️⃣ Intimacy with Co-workers: Close, trusting relationships and enjoyable interactions with colleagues
4️⃣ How much I invest in it: The extent of personal effort, time, ideas and energy you invest into your work
Which of these factors makes the biggest difference for you?
I go into more detail about each factor in my latest article for Big Think and share some tips on finding more happiness and fulfillment in your job.
