It’s time to break with convention

The C-suite have accepted traditional ways of working for too long. These don't fully meet their needs or those of the businesses they serve. The C-suite construct hasn't been revisited since its introduction in the 1980s. The requirements of our top talent and their organisations are changing rapidly to cope with the ever-complex demands of global megatrends.

  • I am a pioneer for the future of work for C-suite professionals and the business leaders they serve. I have helped thousands worldwide build successful team-based portfolio careers in the access economy which is an alternative to the traditional employment model of work.

    I have developed the Strategy and Leadership as Service framework which provides the roadmap for experienced C-level talent to live and work differently. By becoming self-employed and building a portfolio of clients, these senior professionals can break free from the corporate agenda and change their lives and the lives of their clients forever.

    I am business owner and group CEO of The CFO Centre and The Liberti Group, the global number one provider of C-Suite portfolio professionals to entrepreneurial, owner-managed, mid-tier businesses, and larger organisations. I spend my time helping the business community discover my new approach to the future of work.

  • The Liberti business model delivers long-term value for all stakeholders including the businesses and their leaders, the C-suite professionals, and the firms of C-suite providers. But I wanted to know more. Why it worked? What was holding these relationships together for long-term value? After all, there’s no employment contract. They are all B2B service relationships which can be terminated easily, and indeed, some are. So why do some flourish and others flounder?

    From my experience, it is clear that not everyone can make a go of this way of working. That’s why we need Strategy and Leadership as Service”. During my Masters in Consulting and Coaching for Change, run jointly by HEC Paris and Saïd Business School Oxford, I researched and tested the academic theory which underpins this new and innovative business model and I share my findings in my book, Strategy and Leadership as Service”.   • With my interest in the future of work I have shared the Liberti business model and developed my views in two books.

    First, Executive Freedom, which I co-authored, and shares how top-level C-suite talent can gain freedom, flexibility, and control over their lives by becoming self-employed and building a portfolio of clients to work with.

    Second, Strategy and Leadership as Service, which goes much deeper and unpacks why the Liberti business model works, its essential ingredients, and the mindset required. I am interested in the impact of our changing world on employment and work and this business model provides a roadmap for a different way of living and working.

C-Suite professionals who want to work and live differently

At my Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) presentation, I discussed the formula for CFOs to future-proof their careers with portfolio and part-time work. I revealed how they can attain the trifecta: freedom of choice, work-life balance, and the cream on top.
